Mississippi Sports Betting Suffers June Setback
28.06.2024
The Mississippi sports betting market experienced a financial setback in June, registering a deficit of $62,230.77. This downturn was primarily attributed to substantial losses incurred by casinos in the northern region of the state on basketball wagers during that month.
Recent statistics released by the Mississippi Gaming Commission indicate a notable decrease in overall earnings when compared to the $1.6 million total revenue generated in June 2019. This figure also represents a decline from the $87,697.08 in revenue recorded in May 2020.
Betting activity also witnessed a significant reduction, plummeting to $1.6 million compared to $15.2 million during the same period last year. Nevertheless, June’s wagering amount marked a substantial increase from the $236,502.91 recorded in May of the current year.
Casinos situated along the state’s coastline continued to dominate the wagering landscape, with $898,425.30 wagered at these establishments. License holders retained $27,358.45 of this sum, resulting in a win rate of 3.05%.
Other sporting events, excluding American football, basketball, and baseball, generated $625,457.64 in wagers and $119,335.49 in revenue. However, the substantial losses incurred on football and basketball bets largely offset these earnings.
In the realm of football, players placed a mere $1,388.40 in wagers, but sportsbooks suffered a loss of $90,177.
A wager on basketball, amounting to $33,720.80, ended in a deficit of $44,807.16. However, a separate wager yielded a gain of $75.
