Bermuda Opens Door to Casino Resort Proposals
17.06.2024
The island nation of Bermuda is currently welcoming proposals for combined resort and casino developments. Parties interested in constructing entirely new resort casinos, or incorporating casinos into pre-existing tourist facilities, are now able to submit applications for site designation.
Richard Schuetz, serving as the Executive Director of the Casino Gaming Commission, made the announcement that the application window officially commenced earlier today. Legislation passed in 2014, known as the Casino Gaming Act, permits a ceiling of three casino licenses to be granted.
Developers and property holders who are interested must initially pursue property designation before formally applying for a casino license. Established in February of the previous year, the Commission will evaluate submissions and provide counsel to the Minister.
Although the timeframe for the application procedure remains undefined, Schuetz stressed that the process will be accelerated.
Alan Dunch, the Commission Chairman, holds the view that resort casinos will generate employment opportunities for Bermudian citizens and attract investment capital. He remarked, “Our belief is that a properly overseen integrated resort casino experience will bolster Bermuda’s tourism offerings and furnish visitors with an amenity frequently found in numerous international tourist destinations.”
